Sachem Schools Superintendent Christopher Pellettieri announced on Tuesday, Oct. 6 that Sachem High School North will remain closed for the week after more than a dozen confirmed COVID-19 cases that have been linked to an event held on the weekend of Friday, Sept. 25.
In total, hundreds of students and dozens of staff members have been placed into a temporary quarantine as the district and health officials continue contact tracing back to the party.
Pellettieri said that the school will continue visual learning through at least Tuesday, Oct. 13, at which point the district will evaluate the situation with a plan to reopen to in-person learning on Wednesday, Oct. 14.
“The decision to extend North’s temporary shift to our fully distance learning protocol was reached after careful analysis and in consultation with the professionals at the Suffolk County Department of Health Services,” Pellettieri wrote to parents.
“Based on the number of proximate contacts and to help create the least disruption to the educational process, it was determined that this extended closure was in the best interest of all of our students and staff.”
